Currently-commercialised Finite Element (FE) macro-scale composite damage models are not robust enough to provide the desired reliability and accuracy in their numerical predictions of crash structures. This work seeks to present a novel discretisation method for existing FE macroscale modelling approaches, enabling the use of higher accuracy curvature- and inclination-dependent energy absorption parameters, derived experimentally from various tubular and conical coupon crush tests, in the numerical modelling of a complex F1 crash structure.
